The volunteers at the Kenosha Literacy Council can help you improve your literacy skills so that you can reach your goals. These volunteers will help you improve your reading, writing and math skills if you wish to go to Gateway to get your General Education Diploma (GED), get a job or a better job. The tutors will also help you learn English. When you are eligible, the Kenosha Literacy Council offers citizenship classes and excellent material to help you prepare for your Citizenship test.

Frequent questions students ask:

How much does this cost?
We ask that you pay $30 for the assessment to find out what materials are best for you. This includes the first books. The books cost about $10 each. Scholarships are available to the student that needs financial help.

Who will teach me?
A trained volunteer will teach you. There is a list of students waiting for a tutor. If a volunteer is not available, you are invited to come to Learning Lab on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Besides the tutoring class we also have a conversation class on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You will be assigned a tutor as soon as one is available.

What is Learning Lab and where is it located?
Learning Lab is where students work at their own level receiving individual help to improve their literacy skills. Trained tutors come to Learning Lab to help students who are waiting for a tutor. The tutors give individual help so the students can work at their own pace. Small groups are also available. Some students like to keep coming to the Learning Lab for extra help as well as the conversation classes.
