The Kenosha Literacy Council (KLC) is dedicated to improving literacy in Kenosha
County. Kenosha County has from 18% to 20% of its adult population who are
not able to read or write at or above the 4th grade level.
Illiteracy affects every Kenosha County resident as tax revenues are lost
through unemployment and under-employment. The resulting poverty can adversely
affect the quality of life of all residents and our community.
Since 1965, KLC has offered literacy services to adults, both native-born or
those who have emigrated here. The Literacy Council provides free 1 to 1,
individual and small class instruction to those who wish to improve their
literacy skills in reading, writing and math. Citizenship classes are also
offered on a routine basis. This in turn, will elevate the quality of their
lives and families, as well as the quality of all of our lives in this community.
